Community Development Block Grant

The City of Houston has contracted with Child Care Council to administer the Community Development Block Grant Program.  Funds have been awarded to the City through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The program provides supportive human services necessary for the successful planning and implementation of neighborhood revitalization efforts.  Services also support neighborhood residents in their efforts to become employed, maintain employment, and increase economic viability in the community. Additionally, the program will also reduce or abate alienation and isolation among working parents through support services for the family. Child Care Council currently provides oversight and technical assistance to non-profit agencies selected to receive funding.  The contracts provide services for low to moderate income families in the following areas:

  1. Child Care Program offers quality child care and parental development.
  2. Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Program offers services to at-risk youth with an emphasis on character development.
  3. Emergency Shelter Program offers services to prevent homelessness and support services to assist the homeless.
