JOB DESCRIPTION - TEACHER TRAINEE
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting in planning and conducting the daily program for a
group of children in the day care center. Responsible to Site Manager/Day Care
Coordinator.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Assist in planning and conducting of activities for children.
- Prepares educational materials required to implement the daily activity plan so
that the basic early childhood curriculum areas are covered.
- Maintains an orderly physical environment conducive to optimal growth and
development of children.
- Maintains a healthy safe classroom and play ground area to provide for the
children's well being.
- Attends staff and parent meetings and contributes to meetings.
- Relates to parents of children in the group to plan for activities designed to
foster the growth and development of each child.
- Maintains developmentally appropriate arrangement of the classroom with the
Bulletin Board reflective of current monthly themes and other information
regarding the children.
- Attends yearly training as required (Agency/outside)
- Assists in the recording, and evaluating significant individual and group
behavior.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience
- High school diploma with at least six (6) months of one (I) year experience in early
childhood education, or a related field.
- Ability to relate sensitively to preschool children
- Responsible for participating in extensive curriculum training on the job.
- Working knowledge of Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services for the
operation of licensed day care facilities.
- Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
- Evidence of sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision
constructively.
- Ability to recognize and to record significant individual group behavior.
Working Conditions
- Work is carried out in a controlled, agreeable environment as generally represented by
normal day care conditions.
Contacts:
- Requires frequent contacts with parents, central office staff and TDPRS personnel.
Physical Requirements:
- Familiar with equipment conducive to the physical safety and intellectual development of
young children.
- Physical exertion including bending, standing and walking, must be able to lift approximately
25-60 pounds occasionally.
