Child
Care Council of Greater Houston, Inc. has been a leader in Houston
area’s after school industry with over 15 years of experience
developing programs in schools and private sector. Our
programs look beyond the academics for the development of the whole
child. We prepare students for successful lives through
all-encompassing program components and our unique vision. We
believe that education needs to be community based and like pieces
of a puzzle, we all fit together to help mold each individual child.
As pieces of a puzzle: The
campuses provide safe locations, schools provide the academic rigor,
students provide their interest and aptitude, parents provide their
unconditional love and dedication, and community organization holds
the puzzle together through on-going support, enrichment
opportunities, and advocacy.
The Child Care Council of Greater Houston has been providing high quality and affordable services to Houston’s working poor since its inception in 1969. Through a multi-level approach, Child Care Council provides direct service to children, youth, and families, training services to child development staff from entry level to directorship, and the vendor voucher programs monitored by the Child Care Council puts the power of choice into the hands of impoverished families. Our
Part
•Child
Care Council is able to offer Elementary Schools a problem free
solution for after school care.
Students who stay on campus for after school care are
guaranteed a safe and productive afternoon, each day.
•Child
Care Council does our part in juvenile delinquency prevention by
providing students with positive role models and mentors who care.
Cooperative learning will also help students feel successful
and have a positive self image. •Child
Care Council actively involves parents in every step of planning and
implementation of after school activities.
Involvement varies from surveying the parents to determine
program needs, to hosting parent education workshops, to raising
funds, and even recruiting parents as volunteers in the after school
program. •Child Care
Council operates all programs with quality care as the guide.
Therefore, these licensed programs will meet and exceed
minimum standards regulated by the Texas Department of Family and
Protective Services. •Child
Care Council programs engage students in active learning of subject
areas. Understanding
the importance of math and science for Elementary School students,
we will feature an innovative learning math and science through the
arts program. •Child
Care Council actively seeks out partnerships with community
organizations in order to bring HISD Elementary Schools’ students
the most well-rounded experience.
Collaborations other organizations will broaden students’
community experiences. •Child
Care Council uses collaboration to leverage funding in order to
support the operation cost of the program.
•Child
Care Council aims for this pioneering project to serve as a model
for replication in many schools. Each individual elementary school,
the district, the Child Care Council and other community partners
will reap the marketing benefits of having notable awareness from
the community as well as media to spotlight this partnership as a
leader in after school program innovation. Our
Community
The extended day program in collaboration with the Child Care Council is designed to fulfill the needs of children by providing them with appropriate learning experiences to assist in their physical, social, emotional and intellectual development. The program seeks to enhance children’s growth by offering them developmentally appropriate choices. These choices are usual non-directed so that children will have the freedom to decide upon which activities they wish to engage in. We attempt to give the children as much freedom and flexibility as possible due to the fact that a great portion of their day has been in a structured academic environment. Enhancing the growth and development of the children will not only benefit the individual student, but also their families and community at large. Child Care Council and its community partner MOCAH will work with each campus to design a project that would most suit the needs of that campus |
